Persephone Embraces Her Destiny
Persephone Embraces Her Destiny

PERSEPHONE EMBRACES HER FATE was inspired by a dream I had when my eldest daughter came of age. In the dream she had rode off on a black horse and I didn't know where she had gone to. I awoke distraught, feeling like Demeter after her daughter, was abducted. Part of the ancient Greek myth explains that since Persephone ate three pomegranate seeds that Hade's gave her in the underworld, she was unable to return to her mother above ground for the entire year, only for the spring and summer. The image I chose for Persephone clearly embraces both life and death. Here she willingly leaves the beauty of her doting mother's domain in the upper world to commence her role presiding over the dead in the underworld.
